Evening Routines

Well, here is a dilemma. If I come home and make a good and healthful meal, I have virtually no time to exercise until 9 p.m. when all I wan to do is fall onto the couch. If I come home and exercise, then I’m so hungry that I can’t wait for a meal and want to just pop a frozen pizza in the oven. Oh, the agony! (That’s sarcasm, my friends).

Last night I cooked. We had a guest from Ryan’s lab, and I made this recipe from the book I mentioned last week, and luckily I could find it online for your viewing pleasure.

Ok. Blogger is being a pain. If you're interested, go to the foodnetwork website and in the recipe search type in chicken stew. I used the recipe by Giada De Laurentiis.

It was pretty tasty, and I’m having the leftovers for lunch today. Next time, I guess I’d double the recipe if we were serving three or more so that I’d have enough for leftovers the next night.

What is your evening ritual? Do you cook each night? Watch a favorite TV show? Play playdough-snake church with your kids (wink, wink, Chris)? Just curious.

I'm sure you've noticed that I've decided not to wait until I can think of something interesting to say before I post again. The temptation to sneak away to talk to you about less than thrilling things is too great!

Blessings on your day.

I used to cook so I was ready to eat at 7 p.m. for whatever was on TV. Now that I'm taking classes at the gym right after work, my routine is changing a bit. I'll come home closer to 7, eat a quick snack, shower, cook dinner and start watching TV whenever I'm ready. TiVo is worth it for just this. I can watch a show from the beginning while it's recording.

not a whole lot of routine here, but I usually jog on our treadmill in the mornings after micah is gone to school and the other 3 are still sleeping. In the evenings, we usually do dinner and then a family walk/bike ride or play baseball out in the yard. I am all about either crock pot meals that cook all day or big meals that we eat on for 2 nights. A lot of times I double things just to stick some in the freezer to have the next week or so.
We used to get the kids in bed just to sit and watch whatever shows we were hooked on (using our tivo), but since all this has gone on with clint, we have gotten rid of our cable, and we have no antanae, so we do not watch tv at all... it was a huge sacrifice for me at first, but it has been 2 weeks now, and I am enjoying life with out tv. We get so much more accomplished and we talk to eachother so much more... I am sure I will miss it soon when all the new shows start up, and I dont get to watch, but for now, it is kinda nice to be back to the basics.
Sorry for the novel comment!!

Jamie,
The idea of TiVo really appeals to me. Especially the idea of being able to fast forward through commericals. I guess that would make an hour show last for only 40 minutes or so?

Allison,
You make me laugh.

Summer,
I need to get into the crock pot more, I guess. I always hate cleaning it, which is dumb because I know it's less work than cleaning several pots/pans.

I think it IS a real sacrifce for you to give up the shows you like. I feel like I sacrifce, too, by not having cable - and here no cable means to tv reception. I know nothing about 24 or Lost, etc. (But I have rented half a season's worth of Grey's Anatomy.)But there are benefits, like the ones you mentioned. I actually think I don't waste any less time because I still watch plenty of videos from the library, but I figure at least I'm not watching something just because it's on like I know I would otherwise. And no commercials is a good thing, too. My co-worker is always coming in and saying did year hear about the new (fill-in-the-blank) they're making. And I don't so I'm not tempted in the least to buy whatever it is. I hope that you continue to find that the sacrifice is made up for by what you gain out of your new situation. See, I can write novels, too!
