Not too much to report, but here are a few things that have filled my days recently.
I was home for a couple of days last week with a serious cold. I say serious because it was enough to drive me to the doctor who who actaully said it wasn't serious and that I should just rest up, so I did.
During this time I've been reading My Antonia by Willa Cather, a story about a pioneer woman which makes me wonder why we don't live on a farm or at least somewhere out in the country but that makes me glad that we do have good dental hygiene and that I can plan to not have ten children. I've watched a few movies including Back to the Future and Three Men and a Baby that I haven't seen in at least ten years but that I watched over and over again as a kid. It's fun to see things like that and to think about how you see them differently now that your not so kid-ish. I also watched a Shirley Temple movie, Bright Eyes, which was pretty darn cute.
I finally invested in a few inexpensive but worthwhile organizing things from Bed Bath & Beyond. One is a stacking shelf for canned goods in our pantry. Ryan likes to buy things in bulk so the pantry is usually stuffed and I usually can't find anything. Then I also got a soda can holder for the fridge and a plastic grocery bag holder for under the sink. Not too thrilling, but I'm still happy to be making baby steps to a more organized life. That's the nice thing about not moving every other year at long last. I have the time to figure out how to make our place work better.
Ryan and I had a big date at the Cracker Barrel which is the only place in town that we're sure we won't run into anyone from work/school and we will run into several senior citizens from church, and of course we did and got to chat with a couple of them. I think that's pretty funny. It's like we're already 60, but we like it anyway.
Sunday we attended a memorial service for a classmate of Ryan's which was very sad, of course. It made us think a lot. If you're a pray-er please send one up for the friends and family of this person.

And now I have one full week, and then next Wednesday we're heading for Texas, Lord willing. I'm very excited!
That's all for now.

I just love to read your posts... it makes me feel more a part of your life now... I have missed talking to my girlfreinds so much! I am going to do what it takes to see you while you are in Texas! Hope you have a good week!
Love,
Summer
ps - I, too, and glad for our dental hygiene, but mostly I am glad to know we are not expected to birth 10 babies.... my body is falling apart already after just 4!! :-) One of my "mommy-friends" and I were joking back and forth the other day, and she said after her 3 kids, her bra size is no longer a 36C... she is now a 36-long! I love it!! Sorry to all the male readers who really didnt want to hear that!
My Antonia is on my reading list. Is it good?
Sorry about your cold.
Has anyone evry showed you the spooky part in the movie three men and a baby? There's one scene with an extra person standing behing some curtians adn of course there's all the ghost theories to go along wiht it. It is so freaky...of course I am scardey cat though too.
In keeping with the old movies you haven't seen in a long time- last night i watched "Mr Mom". What a cheesy classic!
I hope you are feeling better!
ABL
Elisa, whenever I read your blogs I feel like I am reading a journal of someone who lived in another time. I picture spring time and I see you walking in slow motion stopping to smell all the flowers and gazing upward to soak in the sun. It is so peaceful and almost nostalgic! So different from the pace of my life. It is hard for me to explain - I mean as a totally wonderful thing! It is good to be a small part of your life with you so far away!!
Yay for heading for Texas! I'm way excited!! And I'm very impressed by your organization skills. You will not be so impressed by mine when you come to my apt (yay again!). When I got back from the weekend home, I had the lovely job of doing the dishes that had been molding in the sink all weekend....ah, the life of a college student...
Summer, you funny girl. Believe me I already wonder how you manage four boys. God is making you into a patient and wise woman! I hope you're having a good week, too. Here's hoping that I see you soon!
Jamie, I think it's very good. It's the type of book I generally like to read, so based on what you think of it when you read it you'll know whether to trust future recommendations from me. It's made up of sketches of people and their struggles that give you a feel for the time and place they supposedly lived in. It really appeals to me - almost finished.
Chris, yeah I watched that part a few times this time around. It still looks very real, but it didn't freak me out too much now. I do wonder what the heck or who the heck that was, though.'
ABL, I'll have to put Mr. Mom on my list. Thanks!
Jaime, I think people everywhere envy my grandma lifestyle. :) Well, maybe not, but I'm glad that you're an appreciative friend and that I'm more in contact with you lately.
Jessie, you need to get a cat and she will make you clean things up more often. A cousin for Cordi? Love you.
